Donkey Contest II
It's time for another Donkey Contest! This one only has two questions - so this contest will probably be either a lot harder or easier than the last contest that had lots of questions!
Question number one: Specifically, what is this a picture of?
Question number two: Exactly what was it called?
Some hints:
-
The date of manufacture is 1911, and
-
Obviously it is some sort of lighting device, and
-
It is easier if you are older than I am!
The first person to get both questions right wins!
And I thought I needed a hair cut!
What strange old stuff to you have around the house or home? (I mean besides a spouse!)

it looks to me like a doorknob with a gas lamp in the middle... also known as cruel and unusual punishment!!!!

It's a lamp... Is it from a ship? Maybe an old mast lamp?
(yes - I am just guessing....)
Well, dang, I was gonna say hubby, but you said no spouse...darn!...strange old stuff...hmmmmm - hubbys undies!!
That kerosene lantern is one that they used on a train back in the old days.....I think the guy in the Polar Express movie used one??...or they used it back in the day to find their to the outhouse??.....am I close??..LOL..
I think it's a barn lamp. Is that the one you saved from when you were a little kid? :::snicker::: just goofin with ya.
Well I know what it is... But isn't that the same thing as what it's called? I know it's a headlight (actually goes to the side of the car close to where our side mirrors would be these days) to a Ford Model T (1913 Pickup) and as far as I know it's called a headlight or headlight housing... To see a pic of it on a model *giggle* Model T go to http://www.animationartwork.com/artwork/sku2841. The Franklin Mint also has one I believe. (Did I ever mention I love old cars? lol)
What do I keep that is old... I have a bill hanger that belonged to my grandparents that still has their old insurance book keeping thing in it from 1927. I also have a mirror that is over 50 years old that belonged to my grandparents.
Just did some research and it seems that "headlight" is also on the Model T Police wagon!
Oh and RYC: No it's not Monday again... Had you visited me yesterday you would have gotten the full effect of that cartoon! LOL
Well I see I have been beaten to the correct answer... lol... you do come up with interesting stuff though... did I eve mention my grandmother got hit by a model T when she was 6 yrs old?
Ah, I remember it well......but not sure what it was called...could it be a horseless carriage lamp?? Speaking of antiques, I keep telling Doc, I don't need any since I live with one and am not far behind him...check my site.
I guess I knew the picture of the green face was not your idea. You are just too nice to come up with that. Nice to see the ears back..
I'd say a gas streetlight.
DID YOU SEND THE RANSOM NOTE? WHERE ARE MY FROGS??
looks like a lamp to me?

I guess I'm boring...I really don't have any strange old things around here... My son did find some old things on his farm he is getting ready to auction off. The farm originally belonged to one of our towns long time citizens and evidently after he died years ago alot of the old timey stuff was just left there stuffed in out buildings.Anyway my son came across one of those old ugly metal hair dryers...we plugged it in and it still blows out hot air! Also found some of those old steel things that were used waaaay back when to latch onto a block of ice and carry it.
a lantern to light the miners way in the mines
well hell ... I think it's a gas lamp? maybe from lamp post? (I'm not looking at any of those other comments because I don't wanna cheat!!!). I'm not gonna win, am I?
that animal looks like a backstreet boy who needs a haircut ..... I say it's Nick.
RYC: You hit the nail right on the head! I need to do my personal stuff at work so I do not stay up late at night doing it and then end up being late to work because I'm too tired to get out of bed. I'm running that past my IT guy right now. I bet it doesn't work.
I resemble that last remark!
HA!!!! her bounce is gone!!!! good job donkey!
RYC: BANANA'S ~~~~SPLIT~~~~~~ i just cant stop laughing!
the way it looks its an old lamp
...we call it here "Gasera" normally used by fisherman the light is like the flourescent light which is invented by a filipino engineer.
......named Florencio Flores
